In the summer of 2014, I had the privilege of attending the Young Leaders Conference, a transformative event organized by the School of Leadership. Held annually, this flagship conference aimed to nurture young leaders and inspire social action projects among thousands of participants. As I reflect on my experience, I am reminded of the conference’s powerful theme: “Future Here.”

From the moment I arrived, I sensed an electrifying energy permeating the atmosphere. Despite my initial apprehension, I quickly found myself immersed in a community of like-minded individuals, all driven by a shared desire to make a positive impact on our communities. The conference provided a platform for us to connect, share our journeys, and explore our potential as future leaders.

The conference kicked off with an emphasis on breaking out of our comfort zones. Through team-building exercises and introspective sessions led by inspiring facilitators like Miss Shireen Naqvi, we delved into self-discovery and uncovered our strengths and passions. It was a deeply introspective experience that set the tone for the days to come.

Each day of the conference was meticulously planned around a central theme, designed to equip us with the knowledge and skills needed to become agents of change in our respective spheres. We delved into topics such as advocacy, culture, enterprise, and employment, gaining valuable insights into the systems and structures that shape our society.

One of the most impactful activities was the “extra corp” exercise, where participants were given simulated disabilities to experience firsthand the challenges faced by differently-abled individuals. This powerful exercise fostered empathy and underscored the importance of inclusivity and compassion in our interactions with others.

Throughout the conference, we were privileged to learn from a diverse array of speakers, including Mr. Umair Jaliawala, Mr. Kamran Rizvi, and Miss Shireen Naqvi, whose wisdom and insights left an indelible impression on me. Their words inspired me to harness my potential and embrace the responsibility of driving positive change in my community.

As the conference drew to a close, emotions ran high as we bid farewell to our newfound friends and mentors. Yet, amidst the bittersweet farewells, I felt a profound sense of gratitude for the transformative experience I had undergone. The Young Leaders Conference had not only equipped me with valuable skills and knowledge but had also instilled in me a renewed sense of purpose and determination.

Looking back, I am immensely grateful for the opportunity to have participated in the Young Leaders Conference. It was a turning point in my life, igniting a passion for leadership and social change that continues to drive me to this day. To every young person out there, I urge you to seize the opportunity to participate in this remarkable conference. It is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience that has the power to shape the leaders of tomorrow and usher in a brighter future for all.
